Abbas was an Afghan Refugee who graduated as a Nurse from Charles Sturt University. The Bathurst Refugee Support Group provided accommodation and emotional support during his University Studies. He is now married and lives and works as a Nurse in Adelaide. He became an Australian Citizen at a Ceremony in Adelaide on 26th January 2026.

Two of our asylum seeker families participated in the Harmony Week 2021 project organised by Bathurst Regional Council and The Neighbourhood Centre.


Dr Rachael Jacobs recently (September 12) visited Bathurst.  She did a workshop showcasing her group, in association with the Sydney Theatre Company and students from the University of Western Sydney, help asylum seekers learn English.  She spoke at a dinner at Panthers Bathurst with guests from Bathurst  and Orange.

Donation from Students

Students from Year 8 at St Stanislaus’ College Bathurst made a gift to the volunteers of BRFG as part of their religious education unit coordinated by Mrs Kate Welsh.
